Magic


 

So first, let us define reality.

 

Reality starts as you see it. Earth, floating on water, surrounded by sky. These are the physical. This is the Shroud Earth. Most beings go through their entire existence seeing and living only through the Shroud Earth.

 

But this is only a small part of reality.

 

Attached to the Shroud Earth is also the Shadow World. It is from here that shamans first commune with the spirits. It is from this mirror shard of reality which those beings we call 'ethereal' appear, and where we ourselves become ethereal. This world is not separate from the Shroud Earth, it is it's other half.

 

Some are able to see the Gossamer Dream. Not only see it, manipulate it, reconstruct it to their will. The dream connects all minds, every thought, every wish, every desire. Though it is a dream, it is in every way, a larger part of reality than the Shroud Earth.

 

Last, we have the Cloud Gate. Few mortals ever see, let alone manipulate, the Cloud gate. This is not a singular part of reality, it IS reality. All other realities are simply a construct within the Cloud Gate itself. Artificial reality created within true reality.

 

Now you are beginning to see ^__^.


 

Magic will consist of something like the four laws of eBlaf, (hearts , hands, voices, eyes) with each level providing a number of simple anima which may be used sequentially to provide a desired effect. I still have not determined how to calculate cost, but may end up allowing my players to choose their own cost, their ability to focus will determine how much they actually spend (probably something like "roll 2 differently colored dice, one to indicate overspending and one to indicate underspending, if they match you spend exactly what you wanted to, otherwise you spent a little more or a little less"). I truly wish to implement the concepts provided in the "tales", but probably watered down.

Magic should be, in essence, change. Nothing is lost, everything is conserved.


 

  • Seek - two items which are in contact become bound to one another such that if separated, one will always seek out the other to the best of its ability. If used on two physical objects, the objects become effectively magnetized one to another. This anima may be used to create homing arrows. If used on two consciousnesses in the gossamer dream, the two consciousnesses may constantly seek each other out, though the interaction once they find one another is not determined by this anima.

 

  • Avoid - a single target becomes ignored by something of the caster's choice. If cast in the physical realm, this may make light avoid the target. If cast in the gossamer dream, it may cause thoughts to avoid the target.
